After all the train breakdowns, disruptions, floods, and collisions of 2017, SMRT really hasn’t had the best year. So to help passengers (conveniently) forget about the chaotic crowds and hours-long delays we’ve experienced the last few months, the transport operator has engaged buskers and performers at major train stations and bus interchanges for the first time to infuse a little festive cheer into our commute.
Also, its staff volunteers will be distributing some kind of Christmas-themed stickers over the next couple days… but we’re not sure who still collects stickers. Kids, maybe.
Anyway, from now till Christmas Eve, you can expect to hear Yuletide tunes alongside Mandopop, jazz, and Malay songs at 10 stations along the East-West, North-South, and Circle Lines. These include City Hall, Paya Lebar, Tampines, Bishan, HarbourFront, and Orchard MRT stations, as well as Yishun Bus Interchange.
The line-up features performers such as charity group Very Special Arts Singapore, wheelchair dance community OnWheels Dance Group, and buskers like The Unemployed, Muhammad Firdaus Osman, and Jarvis Quek Shao Bin.
So if you’re passing by any of the train stations between noon and 2pm or 6pm and 7pm, feel free to check ’em out.
