Business as usual at Woodlands Checkpoint despite increased toll charges

This morning, traffic flow at Woodlands Checkpoint was as usual – heavy – despite the effected increase in toll charges.

According to Channel NewsAsia, there was no visible increase in passengers on public transport travelling between Johor and Singapore to avoid paying for the extra charge.

Malaysian police was said to have been put on standby in case of protest, but there was no activation.

Rather surprising considering Malaysian bus drivers had gone on strike on Aug. 1 in a public outcry against the increased toll charges.

Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has assured they’ll be engaging with various agencies at the land checkpoints to “monitor the situation and ensure that travellers are cleared smoothly without compromising security”.
