Business rivalry dispute leaves man’s face permanently disfigured after knife assault

When seven thugs gang up against a single man, things never turn out okay for the victim. In the case of 52-year-old Liakath Ali, he was left permanently disfigured when fell victim to an armed assault along Arab Street when his face was slashed with a knife. 

Police received a call around 10.11pm on Aug 26 about a man with facial injuries found at the junction of Arab Street and Rochor Canal Road. Liakath was promptly conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment. 

Investigations mounted by the Criminal Investigation Department revealed that the attack had transpired due to a business rivalry dispute. Seven men — including five Singaporeans and three Indian Nationals — aged between 23 and 46 were arrested on Monday in relation to the incident. Three Singaporean suspects and an Indian national had allegedly slashed Liakath with a knife, TODAY reports, leaving him permanently disfigured. 

Any one of them convicted for the offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons may face life imprisonment.
