Brothers fined for illegally collecting fees from foreign workers

It’s a shame that some people think it’s okay to take advantage of vulnerable people.

Lim Boo Hwa and Lim Boon Hong, brother-owners of Lexley Management Services, colluded with an employee of one of their clients to illegally collect money from foreign workers renewing their work permits.

Straits Construction Singapore is already paying Lexley Mgt for that service — but one of its supervisors thought of illegally collecting another round of fees from the workers and splitting the revenue between him and the two brothers.

Reports say the three bozos were able to collect almost $418,000 since they hatched the scheme in 2009.

The two brother Lims were fined $180,000 each yesterday, while the errant supervisor, who is a foreigner and presumably no longer in Singapore, has been placed on the Wanted List. According to Channel NewsAsia, the money has been returned to the workers.
