Bricks of cannabis seized at Woodlands Checkpoint

A total of 5kg worth of cannabis was seized on Thursday (Nov. 6) at Woodlands Checkpoint.

Officers from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) were conducting a routine inspection on a 28-year-old male Malaysian driving a Malaysia-registered multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) when they discovered 10 parcels wrapped with aluminium foil in its rear.

The drugs and the suspect were handed over the Central Narcotics Bureau, who conducted a follow-up operation on the same day to nab a 48-year-old male Singaporean believed to be the intended recipient of the parcels amounting to a potential street value of over $167,000.

Investigations on all suspects are on-going.

Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, those convicted of trafficking in more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
