BREAKING: 41 locally transmitted cases of Zika virus confirmed in Singapore

After announcing Singapore’s first case of locally transmitted Zika virus yesterday, the Ministry of Health confirmed today that 41 cases of locally-transmitted Zika have broken out in the Aljunied Crescent and Sims Drive area.

A 47-year-old Malaysian woman who lives at Block 102 Aljunied Crescent in Singapore was the first confirmed locally-transmitted case. Since she had not traveled out of the country recently, authorities concluded she contracted the disease in Singapore.

“While MOH and NEA have stepped up precautionary measures, we expect that there may be further cases, as most infected persons may display mild or no symptoms,” the MOH said in a statement.

Of the 41 confirmed cases of locally transmitted Zika, 36 are foreign construction workers and 34 have already fully recovered, according to The Straits Times.

Zika is generally a mild disease amongst healthy adults, but can cause microcephaly in the unborn fetuses of pregnant women.

Microcephaly leads to shrunken and misshapen heads in newborns, as documented in alarmist news reports worldwide.
