Nobody wins in road rage cases. The two people involved in the viral video depicting yet another dispute between a cyclist and a truck driver are currently being investigated by the police, and both of them stand to be jailed and fined if convicted.
The video in subject depicts the two in the midst of an altercation along Jalan Eunos on Sunday morning. The truck driver had rushed out of his vehicle to confront the cyclist, who responded by delivering a solid punch to the other party’s face — strong enough to knock the man onto the ground.
From just the video itself, it’s unclear what kicked off the fight in the first place. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the driver had actually overtaken the cyclist along Jalan Eunos, and the subsequent confrontation allegedly saw the motorist use the truck to force the cyclist off the road, The New Paper reported.
The truck driver, a 32-year-old man, has since been arrested for the rash act of endangering the personal safety of others. If found guilty, he could face six months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500.
The 55-year-old cyclist could be facing even heavier penalties, however. Currently under investigations for voluntarily causing hurt, he could be jailed for up to two years and/or get a maximum fine of $5,000.
The case against the cyclist
Though most folks sided with the cyclist after watching the clip, stories of his alleged misconduct have come to light. An individual who claimed to have witnessed the whole incident posted that the cyclist was an alleged nuisance on the road, and had started “banging loudly” at the lorry.
Roads.sg posted a screengrab of a Facebook comment that accused the cyclist of a previous transgression.
