A warehouse dealing with plastic materials at no. 6 Fan Yoong Road near Jalan Boon Lay was engulfed in a fire the size of a football field early this morning.

When the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived after being alerted to it at 2:58am, the blaze was raging. About 60 firefighters brought with them five fire engines, three Red Rhinos, nine supporting vehicles, an ambulance and an Unmanned Firefighting Machine, within eight minutes of the call for assistance.

According to the SCDF, at the height of the operation, firefighters encircled the factory with a total of 12 water jets, and used foam in selected areas.
The fire was brought under control within an hour and extinguished at about 7am. SCDF is currently carrying out damping down operations.

Four workers had already evacuated from the premises when the officers arrived at the scene and no injuries have been reported.
