BooksActually launches a curated monthly subscription service for books

Once again, BooksActually proves it’s the champion we never knew we needed when it comes to all things literary. After pleasantly surprising everyone with its book vending machines, the independent bookstore announced the launch of a subscription service for — what else? — books.

Voracious readers will find the BooksActually Box a perfect gift for themselves and other fellow bibliophiles. In the monthly book subscription package, subscribers get a handpicked book every month, customised according to the BooksActually staffer whose reading profile they identify with. BooksActually founder and owner Kenny Leck, for example, offers “Books That Will Make You A Better Person”, while marketing manager Angelin Chua has books dealing with speculative fiction and light reads for comfort.

The box doesn’t just come with a book. Subscribers will get free items every now and then — like a notebook or a special blend of tea — that complements their reading sesh. In the highly unlikely event that subscribers already own the book they receive (BooksActually says they’re sending books that are slightly more obscure), the bookstore will arrange a replacement book to be sent out, no returns required.

Subscription packages are now available to purchase in three-, six- and 12-month memberships starting from $129. Mystery book boxes will arrive within the first week of the month. Unfortunately for overseas fans of BooksActually, the service is not available to international customers — at least for now.
