Second Boo Jun Feng feature ‘Apprentice’ shooting in September

Acclaimed Singapore film-maker Boo Junfeng’s will begin shooting his second effort Apprentice this September in two locations, Singapore and Sydney.

Known for his debut film Sandcastle, which earned him an invitation to the International Critics’ Week at Cannes Film Festival, Junfeng’s follow-up effort will feature a multi-national production team including Germany’s Cologne-based augenschein Filmproduktion and France’s Cinéma Defacto as co-producers and Rachel Higgins of Australia’s Birdcage Films as associate producer.

Apprentice revolves around protagonist Aiman (rumour is that Suria actor Firdaus Rahman will take up the role), a 28-year-old correctional officer who gets a transfer to the top prison where he meets 60-year-old Koon, the prison’s chief executioner. The drama unfolds when Aiman, asked to replace Koon’s assistant who suddenly quits, faces the daunting question of ultimately taking over Koon’s job.

Director Eric Khoo will come on board as executive producer for the film, which stars veteran Malaysian thespian Wan Hanafi Su.

The film will receive funding from France, Germany and Korea.
