Bomb hoax grounds Singapore-bound commercial flight at Subang Airport

It was a tense few hours for the passengers and crew of an international flight at the Subang Airport when their plane was forced to turn back after receiving anonymous calls about a bomb threat.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din told The Star Online that the plane had taken off at 7.40pm and was on its way to Singapore when the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport’s reception received two anonymous calls claiming there was a bomb onboard.

Mohd Zani said the first caller spoke in English, and the second caller spoke in Malay.

“The air control tower was alerted to the threat and the plane was ordered to turn back. It made an emergency landing back at the airport around 8.20pm,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the bomb squad found no explosives after they swept the plane.

The passengers and crew boarded another plane and continued their journey four hours later.

The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, said Mohd Zani.
