In a sombre start to the week, the body of a boy who was reported missing at East Coast Park has been found.
The student — believed to be from Jurongville Secondary School — was said to have been part of a group of boys who had been swimming in the waters off East Coast beach. An eyewitness informed The New Paper that seven boys had been crying for help in the water about 50 meters away from shore.
Three of them managed to swim back, but their four friends had difficulties staying afloat, she claimed. She swam into the waters and helped pull two of the boys in, while a man rescued another boy with a lifebuoy.
The fourth boy, however, was nowhere to be found. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident around 12.25pm, and a search operation was conducted by the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) along East Coast Park’s area E. An ambulance, two fire engines, a Red Rhino, several police cars and three coast police boats were spotted at the scene.
It was around 3.33pm that the SCDF posted a grim update: DART rescuers found the body of the missing boy.
