More grim news have been reported following the deadly quake that hit Mount Kinabalu on Friday — five more pupils and one teacher from Tanjong Katong Primary School have been found dead.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) confirmed that the authorities have identified the bodies of 12-year-old students Ameer Ryann bin Mohd Adeed Sanjay, Emilie Giovanna Ramu, Matahom Karyl Mitzi Higuit, Rachel Ho Yann Shiuan, Sonia Jhala and teacher Loo Jian Liang Terrence Sebastian.
Muhammad Daanish bin Amran, a Singaporean adventure guide who accompanied the students, has also been identified.
Out of the 29 students and eight teachers of Tanjong Katong Primary School who went on school trip to Kota Kinbalu, eight students and two teachers were initially reported missing when a 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Sabah on Friday.
The body of 12-year-old Singaporean girl Wee Ying Ping Peony was retrieved and identified yesterday, and will be flown back here today.
Meanwhile, operations are still continuing to locate the remaining Tanjong Katong Primary School student Navdeep Singh Jaryal S/O Raj Kumar, and teacher Mohammad Ghazi bin Mohamed.
“MOE and other government officials are in Kota Kinabalu, and are providing assistance and support to the families during this difficult period,” the ministry wrote in their media statement.
“Arrangements are being made for the family members and the bodies of the deceased to be flown back to Singapore as soon as possible.”
