An otter-ly romantic scene unfolded near Marina Reservoir when the Bishan clan of critters graced a wedding proposal between two British tourists yesterday.

Though the couple are very much fans of Singapore’s famous otters, the moment was actually unplanned, according to their account to BBC. While in town, Jordan Doyle and Mary Lister had simply trailed Singaporean wildlife photographer Bernard Seah and his fellow wildlife enthusiasts at Marina Reservoir to catch a glimpse of the smooth-coated otters that have made the local waters their home since 2014.

It was when the couple separated from the group that Doyle decided to propose while some otters were swimming nearby. When Seah asked them to pose for a picture, the otters from the Bishan clan approached the couple and sniffed them for a couple of minutes, as if blessing their union. That Disney moment was captured by Seah and uploaded onto his Facebook page.

The two had to keep still when the otters were sniffing around, which explains their semi-awkward faces.

“I have seen otters approach humans but its never usually for a few minutes… it’s never been this long,” noted Seah to BBC. An ardent nature and wildlife photographer who’s endorsed by camera makers Canon, Seah would know the behavioral instincts of the otters, seeing that he’s been taking hundreds of images and videos of the critters.
