The day has finally arrived — the insanely popular video streaming service Netflix will finally launch in Singapore early next year.
Their international expansion will see the service landing in South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan as well. Japan became the first country in Asia to be infected by the binge-watching enablers when it launched earlier this month.
Singaporean fans of Netflix had to work through loopholes by way of virtual private networking (VPN) services to access the network’s vast cache of films and TV shows including House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, Arrested Development and even Friends. Word around town that Netflix’s first original feature film Beasts of No Nation (starring Idris Elba) is crazy good too.

Once launched here, folks will no longer have to subscribe to VPN services to access Netflix — they’ll have a no-frills instant access to watch shows and movies in high-definition or even Ultra HD 4k resolution on any internet-connected screen. A caveat however will be that we’ll only be able to access a curated selection instead of the whole shebang, which is a slight bummer. *Cough* blame MDA *cough*.
While monthly pricing details haven’t been confirmed yet, it should pretty much be similar to their current packages — ranging from US$8 to US$12. You can sign up on their website to be notified when Netflix is available in Singapore. We can’t wait.
