Another day, another court of internet blame convened to determine who did the bad on Singapore’s roads.
This time, a motorcyclist ended up face down on the asphalt in a clip that has been widely shared since yesterday, with armchair experts debating who was at fault.
In the minute-long dashcam clip originally posted to All Singapore Stuff where it was shared thousands of times before being removed, a red Mitsubishi attempting to change lanes sideswipes the motorcyclist attempting to slide past.
Instead of stopping to help, the car returns to its original lane and sails on, just as the biker loses control and goes down to eat pavement.
The stunned motorcyclist lies motionless before feebly attempting to raise his upper body, only to fall back down when his arm can’t hold him. A man in a pink shirt – the driver of the dashcam-equipped vehicle – goes to help him sit upright and waves other motorists away in the footage.
Because a critical half-second of what happened before their collision was not caught on tape, it’s left Singaporeans debating the incident, with many accusing the Mitsubishi driver of everything from failing to signal, signaling too late and not stopping to assist the motorcyclist in the hit-and-run incident.
There were also those who defended the car’s driver, who was still on probation judging by the plate in its rear window, saying the motorcyclist had enough time to notice the car was changing lanes but chose to ride alongside it anyway.
Others, meanwhile, thanked the motorists — mostly the pink-shirted man — who stopped to help.
