Bicycle Master Race: Pasir Ris now a cycle-friendly town

Avid two-wheel pedalling cruisers living in the Pasir Ris municipality should be overjoyed to know that their neighbourhood now hosts a dedicated cycling path network, making it the third bicycle-friendly town in Singapore.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) declared that the new cycling paths will add another 9.3km to the existing network in Pasir Ris Town, bringing the total length of dedicated tracks to 13.3km. This would enable residents to cycle from their homes to the Pasir Ris MRT station, bus interchange, White Sands shopping mall and other amenities within the estate. Cyclists will also be able to cruise across adjacent eastern estates such as Tampines and Changi Village through park connectors.

Two signalised bicycle crossings at Pasir Ris Drive 3 and Drive 1 — which sees heaver cycling traffic to and for the town centre — have also been built to enhance safety for pedestrians with clearly delineated road markings.

LTA plans to continue erecting an island-wide off-road cycling path network across the different districts that should span over 700km by 2030.  Works on a cycling path network are currently underway in Yishun that should be completed later this year while the networks in Taman Jurong and Changi-Simei should be up by end-2015.
