The Mandai area — where the Singapore Zoo, River Safari and Night Safari are located — is about to get a massive revamp with a new hotel and two new wildlife parks all expected to be completed by 2023. That means in six years, you’ll be able to visit all three attractions, plus the relocated Jurong Bird Park and a new Rainforest Park, before staying the night at Banyan Tree’s first resort in Singapore.
Plans for the eco-friendly resort by Banyan Tree and Mandai Park Holdings were revealed today. In a press release, Mandai Park Holdings said that the 400-room hotel will offer guests “full-service accommodation” at the “doorstep of Singapore’s wildlife parks” for the first time ever. Previously, overnight camps were organized at the Singapore Zoo — but those are nothing compared to what’s coming.
Nestled on a 4.6-hectare plot of land in Mandai, the hotel will be capped at four storeys under existing tree canopies and provide standard or family rooms, as well as elevated cabins and tree houses. Guests will be within easy access to the five wildlife parks, nature-themed indoor attractions, and public green spaces, and they’ll be kept entertained by activities like guided nature walks, wildlife spotting tours, and recycling workshops.
Designed with an environmentally-friendly nature in mind, the resort will feature energy- and water-efficiency, and it’ll be built around existing vegetation to respect the natural topography of the area. To protect the adjacent Upper Seletar Reservoir, a 15m-wide vegetation buffer will be maintained between the reservoir and the hotel.
With construction expected to last for about two-and-a-half years, the hotel hopes to appoint a designer by 2018 and start construction in 2020.
