Experience a slice of the real thing right in Bukit Timah as Chatuchak Night Market returns to Singapore in 2023.
The market will be held at the same spot it was at previously, The Grandstand South Carpark on Turf Club Road and will be open almost daily from Feb. 7 to Apr. 2, 2023.
Because it is a night market, it will only be open from 4:30pm to 10:30pm, and closed on Mondays.
Visitors can browse through over 180 vendors that include street food, antiques, handicraft and other shops. And yes, these shops will be the same ones from the original Chatuchak in Bangkok – but will switch around on a rotation basis over the two months.
Event organiser Keith Tay said, “We brought the famous open-air night market back as we aim to replicate the atmosphere of Thai-style night markets and let visitors savour a wider variety of Thai food beyond tom yum soup and pad thai.”
Some of the food might also seem familiar, but with a Thai twist.
One of the vendors you can find is Cha-Chak Thai Teh Tarik from the Satun province which will be serving up the classic Thai milk tea with its signature orange tint but foamy like the local teh tarik. Also from the same area is a stall rolling out Thai roti prata which deviates a little from the one we’re accustomed to. Eggs are used in the dough, making it chewier and lighter. The roti is also served with heaps of condensed milk and cut into tiny squares – all the more for sharing.
Other than that, sample Thai delicacies like e-sarn, a sausage unique to northeastern Thailand. The grilled sausages are made from fermented meat, rice and even vermicelli noodles.
Thinking of dropping by every week? There will be complimentary parking at the site and free shuttle buses from Botanic Gardens, Clementi, and Toa Payoh.
