A blaze broke out at a HDB unit in Teck Whye Avenue yesterday afternoon, leaving an 8-month-old baby and a man in hospital.
Within half an hour, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) personnel put out the flames originating in a 10th-storey unit of the block, where the contents of a unit’s master bedroom had caught fire, Channel NewsAsia reports.
The smoke emanating from the unit’s window affected the infant, who was in a 12th floor unit during the incident. The baby had to receive treatment National University Hospital for smoke inhalation, while a man in his fifties had to be conveyed there as well due to a cut on his shin from falling debris.
According to the SCDF, no one was in the unit during the fire, and 20 residents from the block had already self-evacuated when firefighters arrived.
