Thanks to the efforts of a compassionate individual, the authorities have rescued a pet poodle from its owner who was caught on tape mishandling the poor dog.

Apollo Chan first shared a disturbing video of a man mistreating his dog on Facebook yesterday — footage that was captured by a resident who claimed to have witnessed the animal abuse multiple times. The clip depicted a man casually lifting the poodle by its leash and seemingly swinging the animal against a wall. A separate clip caught the man kicking the dog’s body, resulting in it yelping out loud and retreating in fear. It’s unclear where exactly the footage was filmed.

A staunch dog lover, Chan took it upon himself to hunt down for the abuser and managed to find his address. According to him, he contacted the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) of Singapore and requested prompt action.

Last night saw the authorities — as well as Chan and his fellow animal welfare activists — confronting the poodle’s owner. In another video shared on Facebook, a lady can be heard explaining to an AVA officer about how the man and his kids had been caught on video abusing their pet dog.

When the owner brought the poodle downstairs for AVA to take away for investigations, things got messy. During the attempt to place the poodle inside a dog crate, it tried to escape, according to a Zoe Hannah. Chan’s hand was bitten pretty badly when he tried to secure the poodle in the crate.

“It wasn’t as smooth, and I got bitten by the poor poodle too because he struggled so hard,” explained Chan.

“But my bites are nothing; what angered me so much was when the wretched owner even had the cheek to ask my goddaughter (when she questioned him) what did he do wrong.”

As of this afternoon, the poodle remains under the custody of AVA, but its condition is unknown. Hannah and Chan assure that they’ll be updating everyone about the case once they hear back from the authorities.
