AVA raid reveals 32 wild and endangered animals in Toa Payoh HDB flat

33-year-old Ong Ming Siang was fined a whopping $41,000 for illegal possession of 32 wild animals, discovered in June last year during an Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) inspection in his Toa Payoh HDB flat.

The verdict was issued on Feb. 6, making it the highest penalty set on a private individual for such a possession so far.

Among the animals in his possession were ball pythons, black-tailed prairie dogs, horned frogs, indian star tortoises, sailfin dragons and a slow loris, all brought into Singapore without the relevant import permits.

19 of the animals seized have been classified as endangered.
