The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) has found two questionable artefacts from the collection it has amassed from New York gallery Art of the Past over the past 14 years.
The Uma Parameshvari sculpture priced at USD650,000 ($827,125) is said to have been stolen from India, while the altar of Virgin Mary and Christ that costs USD135,000 ($171,787) were illegally acquired, that is the documents had probably been forged by the dealer.
There’s no information as to whether the other 28 artefacts purchased from Art of the Past are legitimate.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the museum said that it will return any objects that had been stolen or illegally acquired in accordance to international laws and practice.
The National Heritage Board (NHB) is now considering legal action to recover the funds used to purchase the objects.
