This guy’s got guts. The 36-year-old man allegedly posed as a police officer in a phone call to a 37-year-old woman on Monday (July 25) around 10am. He claimed to be conducting an investigation and asked for her personal details, including banking information and passwords. Unfortunately for the lady, she handed them over.
Later in the day, she realised that $32,000 was missing from her bank account.
The Singapore Police Force was notified by the bank about the man making suspicious transactions, and sent officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Commercial Affairs Department to investigate.
The suspect was arrested rather quickly, at 5.45pm in the same day. He will be charged with Dishonestly Receiving Stolen Property in court today, and if convicted, he can get up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
As always, beware of people impersonating officials and asking for private information.
