After all the endless internet buzz and failed witch hunts, the couple in the middle of the Toa Payoh hawker centre saga have been nabbed — and it turns out they’re not that young after all.

Police confirmed that they arrested a 46-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman for the offence of public nuisance.

Reports had been lodged on Sunday following a massively viral clip that showed the couple allegedly using offensive language and force against a 76-year-old man at Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market & Hawker Centre. For the four of you who’ve yet to see it, here’s the clip:

The video triggered many, leading netizens to play online vigilantes attempting to identify the couple. Claims that the two were employees of UOB’s Toa Payoh branch, however, were dashed by UOB itself:

With that having failed to bring justice, a petition was set up to get the Ministry of Social and Family Development to “take constructive action” to protect the elderly population of Singapore. As of writing, the petition has garnered over 8,000 signatures.

Then came a Facebook post written by the daughter of the old man — the first statement made on behalf of the victim since the incident blew up online. According to Caroline Ng, her father never mentioned anything about the incident to her, and figured that nothing would come out of it even if he did lodge a police report.

“My dad at times may be a little stubborn , a little long-winded like most old folks, but does it call for such violence? The display of aggression is shocking for many of us. Our family are private people, just minding our own business. Trust me, this kind of publicity is last that we seek.”

As it turns out, justice has been swift — especially when the incident rattled as much cages as this one did. No other details have been provided about the arrested couple, but anyone convicted for the offence of public nuisance can be fined up to $1,000.
