Two men, aged 38 and 39, were arrested by the Traffic Police (TP) for dangerous driving and illegal racing on Sunday (July 9). It is believed that they, propelled by their need for speed, were racing illegally with their BMW sports cars along Lim Chu Kang Road towards the direction of Jalan Bahar.
The vehicles clocked speeds of 177km/h and 179km/h, which were more than three times the limit of 50km/h.
Both were stopped and arrested by TP officers for their Fast & Furious misdeeds. If convicted for the offence of illegal racing, the drivers could be sentenced to a maximum of six months in jail and a fine of $1,000 to $2,000. As for the offence of dangerous driving, if convicted, the motorists could face a maximum fine of $3,000 or imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.
TP released a statement saying it “takes a stern view on such dangerous road behaviour that put the lives of other road users at risk”, and promised to “continue with tough enforcement efforts to take such errant motorists to task”.
