Early Thursday (Mar 9) morning, around 1.10am, two men were foiled in their attempt to swim across the sea to Singapore. The men, aged 30 and 33, were located off the Woodlands waterfront by the coast guard, who found them swimming towards Singapore waters.

The police released a statement that said: “Following the detection, both land and sea resources were deployed and both suspects were arrested swiftly.”

If the pair are convicted of overstaying or illegal entry, they can face up to six months’ jail and at least three strokes of the cane. For illegal departure, the penalties are a fine of up to $2,000, a maximum of six months in jail, or both.
