The news has been rife with phone scams lately — from the parcel scam by people impersonating officials to the fake government official scam regarding working in Singapore, there’s also been plenty of witty comebacks by epic trolls like this lady who demanded a USD1,000 administrative fee from the scammer and this guy who brought in Batman bin Suparman for reinforcements. To combat that, a public webform has been launched to collate all suspicious contact numbers.
But still, yet another one has emerged. Apparently, people have been receiving calls from scammers pretending to be from courier companies or government agencies, asking victims to download a particular app onto their mobile phones. Said app would then introduce malware into the phones, allowing the criminals access to any incoming messages, which could lead to stolen banking credentials and personal info.
Check out this warning from the Singapore Police Force below, and don’t readily agree to anything a stranger tells you to do.
