Anonymous member set sights on gov’t twitter accounts, IDA advises public not to be alarmed

An alleged member of hactivist group Anonymous has demanded the release of the five men who were responsible for vandalising a wall at Scape in Orchard Road through a press release issued on Pastebin.

According to Channel NewsAsia, the press release also called for a social media protest in the form of a tweet storm — a coordinated action by many users to send the same tweet out at the same time — to official government twitter accounts @govsingapore and @MFAsg and an email to Foreign Affairs minister K. Shanmugam or Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has advised the public not to be alarmed about the activity and assured that tweet storms will not affect the infrastructure of its networks.

It added that the government takes such cyber security threats seriously and reminded the public to remain vigilant and protect themselves as Singapore becomes more social media-savvy.
