Amos Yee’s trolling stunt backfires; apologizes to former bailor over molestation claims

If Amos Yee’s former bailor Vincent Law wasn’t offended by his previous deeds when the teen made wounding remarks against Christianity (of which he is found guilty for), he certainly is now.

In the subversive teen’s efforts to troll mainstream media outlets on Wednesday, Yee lead reporters on a merry goose-chase by alleging that Law molested him, and promising to answer all queries at Pasir Panjang MRT. Of course, his sensational claims turned out to be completely false, but it had reporters scrambling to the obscure location (he didn’t turn up) and launching stories about the supposed molestation.

Later that night, Yee admitted that he was really just fucking around with them. “And Vincent Law didn’t really molest me, haha. Though he is immensely creepy,” the teen wrote on his Facebook page.

Law, a 51-year-old family and youth counsellor, was not amused by the little stunt. After flatly denying to numerous media outlets about the molestation claims, he has since demanded that the 16-year-old apologise publicly and fully retract the allegation, or face a defamation suit, The Online Citizen reports.

“It is not me who Amos hurt with his allegation, but it is my whole family who was deeply hurt,” remarked Mr Law to the site.

He also mentioned that he would consider taking legal actions against media outlets which have republished Yee’s defamatory allegation.

It’s clear then that Yee’s little trolling campaign backfired on him — he really should have pulled off a similar stunt without dragging his former bailor’s name through the mud — and he probably lost a lot of public support as well. The boy published an apology on his Facebook page, and pleaded for forgiveness from Law. Though we have to admit it sounds a little fishy.

I am extremely remorseful for the turmoil that I have caused to Vincent and his family, for the allegations towards him…

This would be the second time Yee has let down Law, a Christian counsellor who posted a $20,000 bail for him on Apr 21 after the teen spent a couple of days in remand in Changi Prison. Yee then deliberately breached the conditions of his bail, which had disallowed him from posting anything online, prompting Law to discharge himself as bailor.
