The Amazing Race Asia returns after a 6-year hiatus, with Allan Wu back as host

Who knew The Amazing Race was still around? We remember it being huge years ago, but it’s been quite a while since the TV show turned up on our radar. Perhaps because it’s been six long years since we last saw contestants duke it out in a race across countries for the number one spot on The Amazing Race Asia (and, more importantly, the US$100,000 prize money). AXN’s series returns for its fifth season, along with Singapore-based actor Allan Wu as the host, and 10 team spots are up for the taking.

For anyone interested in being on TV, all you gotta do is find a partner who’s physically and mentally strong — someone you’re least likely to strangle in frustrating situations — and convince them to take a frenzied, stressful, competition-fuelled trip around the world with you. Then make a 3-minute video on why you would be awesome on the show, and submit it to The Amazing Race Asia‘s website before the deadline of June 12, 11.59pm.

Producers are likely looking for people with larger-than-life personalities — they make for great TV — so you gotta go big in your video to stand out among the thousands of others. And hey, before you get depressed about your chances of winning (or actually making it through the audition round), remember that teams from Singapore in past seasons have placed pretty well. We’ve won once, came in second once, and third place twice.

Social media will play a big part this season, with teams and Wu sharing experiences across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This means that if your feed has been stagnant for a while, it’s time to get back on it.

If you’re on the fence about signing up, perhaps this little video by a very enthusiastic Wu will nudge you into action.
