Whoa: Almost 4,000 Erimin-5 tablets seized from Malaysian drug runner at Tuas Checkpoint

The depressant tablet Erimin-5, also known as Nimetazepam, is usually prescribed to patients with stress and insomnia, but its usage to soften the comedown of other highly stimulating drugs like meth has made it a heavily controlled substance in the Asian region.

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized 3,999 of these tablets two days ago.

During a routine inspection at Tuas Checkpoint, a 27-year-old Malaysian was found to be hiding four black polythene packages behind the glove compartment. The suspicious packages led the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers to alert CNB.

It was discovered that the driver was attempting to smuggle the giant stock of Erimin-5 tablets amounting to a potential street value of $28,000, into Singapore.

Investigations are underway.
