An elderly man who allegedly stabbed another man at Boon Tat Street earlier this afternoon has claimed the victim was his son-in-law, according to eyewitness reports.
The victim, who was rushed in an ambulance to Singapore General Hospital (SGH), was reportedly conscious but was later pronounced dead at 2.13pm. He was left lying in a pool of blood in front of A Poke Theory.
A Poke Theory manager Eldad Tan told The New Paper he attended to the victim after a customer told him that a man was bleeding outside his store.
“I rushed out with a colleague and saw a man lying face down in a pool of blood. I called ‘995’ and my colleague wanted to help the man up,” said Tan to the paper.
“I was so focused on the man on the floor I didn’t notice an older man holding a knife, standing over him. He said, ‘Don’t help him, he’s my son-in-law. Let him die. I’m old already, I’m not afraid of going to jail.’”
Tan then locked the front doors and proceeded to usher his customers into to the back of the restaurant for their safety. They were let out through the back door, while his colleague hid in a neighbouring restaurant.
He added that the attacker was calm and placed the bloodstained knife on the table, before police handcuffed him five minutes later.
He also heard that the attacker was chasing the victim from a nearby coffee shop on the same road. Employees of said coffee shop were unaware of what had happened, according to The New Paper.
Police investigations are currently ongoing.
