What a great way to start the week — commuters on the North East Line (NEL) had their early morning train ride disrupted for close to two hours due to a power fault.
The troubles started as early as 5.23am today, according to SBS Transit. The purple line went under complete shutdown with no trains running in both directions between Punggol and Harbourfront stations.
To accommodate for the irate rush hour commuters, free bus rides and shuttle bus services were provided at designated bus stops along the NEL. It was only at 6.51am that train services partly resumed between Sengkang MRT station towards HarbourFront MRT station.
Everything finally got fixed proper later on at 7.28am when NEL services in both directions resumed.
Today was really not the day for secondary school and junior college students to be late, especially since there were O and A level examinations taking place.
“Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board has also given candidates the assurance that they will be given the full duration allotted for the examination,” wrote the Land Transport Authority on Facebook. “The Board further assured that no candidate will be penalized for being late today.”
