All registered Singaporeans confirmed safe following deadly truck attack in Nice, France: MFA

While hundreds were gathered on a beach in Nice, France to watch the fireworks for Bastille Day yesterday, terror struck again in the country.

A truck — loaded with guns and grenades — drove into a crowd at the popular stretch of beach, crushing people for two kilometres. 80 people were killed, said French interior minister Bernard Cazeneuve, while 18 others are in critical condition.

The driver was reportedly killed by the police and though his motivations remain unclear, the attack has been noted as having a “terroristic character”, according to French president François Hollande.

“We are shocked and saddened yet again by another terror attack,” said Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), who strongly condemned the heinous attack. “We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wish those who are injured a speedy recovery.”

MFA has also assured that all registered Singaporeans in Nice are confirmed to be safe, while the Singapore Embassy in Paris are working with local authorities to see if there are any Singaporeans affected.
