There are some things to be thankful for in Singapore, starting with our efficient public transport system.

On top of being appreciative of our trains and buses, there are also a niche and small group of public transport enthusiasts who hop on every opportunity to check out new trains and buses or cover every new station opening.

In a TikTok video, a fellow train enthusiast Ong Weijian (@@weijian8501u) was one of the people who gathered in the early hours of the morning at Tuas Link station to welcome the first of a fleet of seventh-generation trains that will replace the previous models on the North-South and East-West lines.

The train enthusiasts – mostly comprised of young male Singaporeans – had their phones out recording the spanking new train as it pulled up to the station. Cheers can also be heard throughout.

The train – an Alstom Movia R151 – replaces the previous fleet of trains that have been in operation for at least 20 years on the North-South and East-West lines.

On top of trains, Ong is also a fan of buses and regularly documents his bus-spotting adventures on his account.

In 2011, a wholesome news interview with a train enthusiast went viral when Jay Tan, one of the first people on the then-new Circle line said that he was too excited to catch the new train that he couldn’t sleep all night.
