All Asean Olympic gold medallists (including Schooling) get free AirAsia flights for life

Singapore Airlines might have presented Joseph Schooling with an elite membership card with a million frequent flyer miles installed (though they then fucked it up in a silly photo op), but AirAsia went one step further.

The Malaysian budget airline went all out by promising free flights for all Asean Olympic winners. CEO Tony Fernandes took to his Facebook page to express his admiration for the Southeast Asian athletes who competed in the recently concluded games in Rio, thanking them for “making us dream and believe”.

“What an Olympics this was for Asean,” Fernandes wrote. “AirAsia, which has its roots in Asean, wants to reward those who gave us so much joy”.

While gold medalists get free flights for life, silver and bronze medalists will also be rewarded, but Fernandes did not reveal what they will receive.

Among those who clinched gold in the Olympics include Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling, Indonesian badminton duo Liliyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad, Thai weightlifters Sukanya Srisurat and Sopita Tanasan, and Vietnamese sports shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh.

Malaysia returned home with four silver medals and a bronze, while Singapore only scored one gold thanks to Schooling.
