Having gained stardom for depicting the trials and tribulations of being a national serviceman in the military, nothing could have prepared Noah Yap for this real-life role.
In a piece of scandalous news reported by The Straits Times, the 22-year-old star of Jack Neo’s Ah Boys to Men series has been jailed for nine months in Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) detention barracks. Yap was unlucky enough to get caught for the consumption of cannabis.
A Lance-Corporal in SAF’s Music and Drama Company, the full-time national serviceman enlisted in May 2014 after starring in the first two Ah Boys to Men films. The Defence Ministry confirmed to the media that Yap was indeed found guilty for the misuse of drugs, and received sentencing at the SAF Court Martial Centre.
It was not clear if Yap was caught red-handed or simply tested positive for marijuana usage in the regular urine drug tests administered during national service.
In any case, he was definitely caught unaware. The last tweet he sent out on Feb 29 was about being up all night editing videos — presumably for his popular YouTube channel.

Scandalous incidents are of course nothing new to the cast of Ah Boys to Men. Fellow cast member Ridhwan Azman made headlines back in 2013 for physically and verbally abusing his then-girlfriend.
