Aggressive altercation, the MRT edition: Two men, an umbrella, and a vulgar vocabulary

Yesterday, a short clip of an aggressive altercation on the train was uploaded on Facebook. Naturally, it went viral almost immediately, because 1) we sure love our MRT drama here in Singapore, and 2) we sure appreciate getting some action as bystanders, especially if it livens up our dull commute.

No explanation was offered, nor any context by the netizen who put up the video. But really, it wasn’t needed, as seen by the commenters on Facebook chiming in with their own judgments.

It seems the brawl — or the part of it that was filmed — involved two men on a NEL train. As commuters attempted to evacuate the danger zone when things heated up, just one woman was left holding back the hostile man in black, to prevent him from getting violent with the other guy in blue.

But that’s not to say he didn’t try. Dude almost whacked the other party with his pink umbrella, but luckily it got caught on the hand grip above, and he was forced to resort to spewing out vulgarities in Hokkien and, er, bad English instead. Failed attack aside, perhaps the most terrifying bit of the 40-second vid was the Singlish dude’s “I scared you ah?!” bellow. Cringe.

[Editor’s note: The original video has since been taken down, so we’ve replaced it with a re-post from Fabrications About The PAP’s Facebook page.]
