AGC denies claims of future underground city in Singapore, asks blog to clarify

On Jul 31 a “concerned citizen” — who may have been watching Mad Max a few times too many — posted an intriguing claim on The Online Citizen.

He said that the People’s Action Party planned to build an underground city in Singapore using money raised from a soon-to-be-issued government savings bond.

That is pure gibberish, claimed the Attorney-Generals Chambers.

Yesterday it sent a notice to the website signed by State Counsel Hui Choon Kuen asking it to either remove the article or preface the story with a statement from the AGC denying the claim. The deadline was at 6pm on the same day.

Non-compliance, the letter explained, would mean “these Chambers will have no choice but to take out an application under Section 15 of the Protection from Harassment Act 2014 to obtain an appropriate court order restraining further publication of this false statement without making clear the truth.”
