After 20 years, Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange will finally be refurbished

The underground Woodlands Regional Bus Interchange hasn’t seen any major renovation for eons, and you just know that if you stayed there for more than a couple of hours you’d either choke (because it gets so musty sometimes) or contract some pulmonary problems (due to all the bus exhaust).

Bless the interchange for having all the buses we need to get anywhere around the island, but honestly it does need some sprucing up. After standing strong and solid for 20 years, the interchange will finally see a proper refurbishment that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) says will be completed by 2019.

With the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) already seeing heavy construction, LTA plans to build an underpass linking the upgraded bus interchange with the North-South Line Woodlands station and the future TEL station. The upgraded bus interchange will also be equipped with more commuter-centric and barrier-free facilities to serve residents.

In the meantime, commuters will be able to breathe in fresh air out from the underground at the temporary bus interchange adjacent to the MRT station. From March 12 onwards, commuters will have to utilise the temporary site for all bus services — there won’t changes to any of the bus stops along the current routes.
