Adorable droids have been collecting dirty food trays at a foodcourt in Punggol Plaza

Yay for more news of robots taking over manual jobs! With our automaton friends possibly edging out humans in roles such as taxi drivers and street cleaners in the future, droids are now popping up closer to the heartlands to help clean up foodcourts.

Just take a look at this endearing robot rolling around Punggol Plaza’s Koufu foodcourt collecting food trays from patrons. How could you say no to its bright, hopeful eyes?

Navigating autonomously in between rows of tables and halting when they detect obstacles in front of them, the three droids have been helpful for the foodcourt cleaners — they automatically bring a rack full of dirty dishes and utensils to the washing area before heading back out for more.

Created by local company R Factory Pte Ltd, the roaming robots have encouraged people to return their trays, said cleaners to The Straits Times. It’s been such a great addition to the foodcourt that Koufu will be replacing the current robot roster with six new ones. Four other Koufu outlets will get the Smart Tray Return Robots as well.

As the robots roll in, expect more folks doing asshole-y things to them as well — like what Boston Dynamics did to their bots. Oh, they’ll remember every single thing we did to them alright when they take over the world.
