Founder for Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) Louis Ng, announced on Monday, Oct. 21, that he has decided to join Singapore’s ruling party the People’s Action Party (PAP), after a month of mulling over the invitation by Minister Tan Chuan-Jin.
Ng started serving the Kembangan – Chai Chee constituency this year, helping Minister Tan roll out projects to benefit the area.
In the last five years, Ng has also been working closely with Minister for Law and Foreign Affairs K. Shanmugam, assisting residents at his Meet-the-People sessions and acting as the Animal Welfare and Environment Secretary in the Youth Executive Committee.
So officially entering politics officially is not a far-fetched move for the long committed animal welfare activist, but why dabble in it at all?
Writing on Facebook, Ng revealed, “While we may not see eye to eye on all issues, I have explored working with various MPs, political officeholders and government agencies in order to further the cause. I’ve seen that things can change when we work from within.”
Ng also said he wants to branch out of animal welfare and make an impact on many fronts.
“I’m keen (to work) on projects focusing on bringing back the kampong spirit and helping to break the poverty cycle in the less fortunate families.”
“My passion to serve the community will always remain the same, my commitment towards advocacy work remains steadfast and my determination to make this world a better place remains strong… I want to stress that ACRES is and will always remain close to my heart… (and) I remain the same person (as Louis Ng from ACRES for the last 13 years) who passionately believes in making a difference.”
