A 59-year-old male motorcyclist died in a serious accident involving a bus and another motorcycle along the Ayer Rajah Expressway on Wednesday morning (June 19).
The police confirmed to The Straits Times that a 52-year-old bus driver and a 20-year-old motorcyclist have since been arrested. The same report noted that the bus driver was arrested for causing death by negligent act. It is understood that the other motorcyclist who was injured was taken conscious to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and later arrested in relation to the case.
The scene of chaos was captured on a video and shared to the Singapore Bus Drivers Community Facebook page, complete with footage of the fallen motorcycle that was behind the bus on the first lane of the expressway. Another motorcycle was spotted at the front of the bus.
Photos shared to the Facebook page showed a blue tent on the side of the highway next to a motorcycle that was toppled to its side. Personal belongings could also be seen strewn across the road.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force told Channel NewsAsia that the accident happened around 7.15am on the AYE towards Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) before the Jurong Pier Road exit. The accident caused traffic congestion during the morning commute and the Land Transport Authority warned motorists against driving on the first two lanes.
Police investigations are underway.
