Yesterday evening, a private bus collided with a tipper truck on the fifth lane of the Marina Coastal Expressway tunnel, in the direction of East Coast Parkway. A total of 28 people were injured, but no lives were lost.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force received a call at 6.17pm, and rushed down to free the bus driver from his vehicle using hydraulic rescue tools. The windscreen of the bus had shattered, and passengers were standing by the side of the expressway. As a result, two lanes were closed, causing a traffic build-up, and the wreckage was only cleared after 9pm.
According to The Straits Times, all the victims were conscious, and 13 were taken to the Singapore General Hospital, while nine went to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and six to Changi General Hospital. It is believed that several of the passengers were tourists from China.
Investigations are underway.
