About 8,000 rare photos of olden Singapore donated to NLB

Following news of the National Heritage Board’s (NHB) celebration of Singapore’s 50 years of independence, 67-year-old retired civil servant and photography enthusiast Quek Tiong Swee has decided to donate around 8,000 rare photographs of Singapore past (from the 1980s) to the centre.

Included in the photographs were lost places like Pulau Tekong, Kampung Lorong Fatimah in Woodlands and Kampung Kok Sek Lim in Changi.

According to TodayOnline, Alvin Tan, group director of policy for NHB, said that the offer of collections by Quek is a windfall for the NHB. He also hopes that more individuals will follow Quek’s example so that the centre can grow its heritage material archives and make them available to the public in future.
