A Redditor came up with a pretty astute TL;DR history of Singapore

On popular Reddit section /r/AskReddit, a Redditor recently posted a question that regularly gets revived every now and then: “What is the TL;DR of your country’s history?”. In other words, sum up decades and centuries of your country’s formation into a bite-sized, internet-friendly summary.

Usually, these threads don’t get any representation from Singaporean Redditors — or that much attention, even if people do contribute. User _Avaritia, however, broke that mold by crafting a highly accurate, highly droll description of how the Little Red Dot came to be the powerhouse it is today — by being everyone’s bitch.

Basically, Singapore went from being under British colonist rule to the Japanese Occupation, then back to being under British control, before attempting to merge with Malaya and finally getting kicked out of Malaysia. Then a dude decided to succeed, to spite everyone who thought Singapore would fail. Yeap, sounds about right.
