Local LGBT awareness campaign “Stop Hurting, Quit Labelling”, officially launched on Nov. 15 in a party held at director Glen Goei’s house.
Now looking to raise SGD30,000 worth of funds via Indiegogo, the campaign led by Lawrence Bernard Wee Kim San aims to fight for equality for homosexuals in the workplace on the basis of Article 12 of the Constitution, which states “…there should be no discrimination against citizens of Singapore on the ground only of religion, race, descent or place of birth in any law…”
Wee was asked to leave his job at Robinsons in 2012 because of his sexual orientation, after which he filed an application with the High Court to seek protection against workplace discrimination of gay people.
In a video by the Article 12 campaign committee, Wee said he was hurt that Robinsons had asked him to leave a job he’d been doing for six years not because of his work performance, but because he was gay.
