After the madness that was last year’s launch of Pokémon Go in Singapore, the craze died down eventually — although you can still spot the odd Pokémon hunter furiously swiping at their phones in the middle of crowded areas.
One such player is 84-year-old Tan Nai Keow, who got on board with Pokémon Go in March this year. It was on New Year’s Eve last year that her eldest daughter introduced her to the game at a family countdown party to keep her from being bored. Since then, she’s been hooked.
She may be a little late to the game, but she’s been doing some great catch-up work by capturing 370 Pokémon (with 237 different types and counting in her Pokédex) over the past six months on the iPhone 7 Plus her grandson gifted her for Christmas.
According to TODAY, the cheery grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of one spends about one to two hours a day on the game. After her regular qigong sessions, she cycles or strolls around Chinese Garden to play Pokémon Go.
Currently at level 34, the active granny is determined to reach the next level. And even though she hasn’t grasped most of the Pokémon names as they’re in English, she’s bestowed on them her own nicknames, which include calling Snorlax “Ah Pui” (meaning fat in Mandarin).
