8-hour road closure along Airport Boulevard slip road after 16-wheel trailer truck tips over

This monster of a vehicle is formidable enough as it is while cruising on the roads, but imagine the chaos it caused when it tipped over.

The 16-wheel concrete pump trailer truck was being towed yesterday morning when it tipped to its side on the slip road from Airport Boulevard to the Pan-Island Expressway, near Changi Airport.

The metallic behemoth ploughed through barricades at the side of the road before coming to a stop at a tree, The New Paper reports. Witness the damage it inflicted in this clip uploaded on the All Singapore Stuff Facebook page.

Obstructing traffic at such a pivotal junction at the expressway obviously caused a massive jam yesterday, as the slip road had to be shut down for eight hours from 8.30am. The traffic jam stretched for about 1km.

Two people — including the driver of the trailer truck — had to be conveyed to Changi General Hospital following the accident. The driver was rescued by the Singapore Civil Defence Force personnel in a two-hour operation which saw rescuers utilising hydraulic spreader and cutter tools to free his legs and shoulders trapped by the caved-in cabin. Sustaining head and spinal injuries, the driver was conveyed along with his passenger to hospital for treatment.
